Another prestigious project by the group located in Friuli, which realizes sound absorption panelling for interiors with Topakustik, in what is about to become one of the most significant architectural projects in Italy of the present time.
Officially opened on Friday 28 January the auditorium has been designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the 102-old great Brazilian architect, who is still working with unprecedented creativity. He gave coherence to Brasili’s town plan and his name is linked to famous architecture works throughout the world.
The project was first presented to the Campania region by the architect in 2003. It was widely discussed for its modern features by the conservatives, who feared it would be hardly fit in the Amalfi coast line, and a wide group of intellectuals, politicians and business men, who believed in a wide-ranging project to make possible cultural tourism in Ravello even out of season. In fact, the Ravello Festival which ranges from symphony music, cinema, figurative arts, will now be allowed to extend over the calendar season (from June to September) and host events throughout the year.
The idea of the Brazilian master was to create a simple yet daring complex at the same time, a light architectural sign to fit easily in the surrounding landscape by means of an access square to take a comprehensive view of the landscape and the building all at once. A wide access glass wall and a porthole behind the orchestra further enhance the integration with the environment with a completely innovative alternation of empty and full spaces and harmonic lines.
Like the main part of Niemeyer's projects, the indoor and the outdoor are curved. The orchestra and the foyer protude on the empty space, the spectators' seats are accomodated on the natural sloping of the land and the non perfect acoustics determined by these unsual geometric lines requires an acoustic intervention.
The executive project realized by a team of architecture firms coordinated by Gnosis Architettura in Naples, scheduled the involvement of the Fantoni Group for the acoustic calculation in the hall, and the determination of the sound absorption panelling type required for a good acoustic quality: The choice to install 1100 sq m of Topakustik 9/2 in white finish represents the right compromise between aesthetical qualities and technical performance.
The partnership between an executive team of professionals of such a level and companies specialized in high-performance products allowed to meet the requirements of the project by the Brazilian architect and presented the region an unmistakable sign of cultural development of the highest level.
